It rained last night.
Rather unexpectedly!
Not just a mere drizzle,
but the whole nine yards entirely.
It poured buckets, cats and dogs
A light and sound show with floating leaves and logs.
Soaking glistening bats and birds; butterflies and snails
shivering trembling clinging to rails.
No tickets, no queues, no special invitation needed,
I was able to simply stand and watch
what all the fuss was about.
And there at my windowsill, drowning in the sound of rain drops
that came swooshing down in waves…
I met myself!
The little one, from a long time ago,
the me I had all but forgotten.
Who couldn’t even reach the top of the sill
without stretching her neck and standing on toes.
That wide eyed me!
Who squealed when errant raindrops
splashed upon her cheek.
the one with the luxury of minutes to spend, spellbound
tracing on cool glass planes their roaming patterns erratically.
Who found magic in the flash of the skies
and the clap of thunder,
knowing somewhere two angry clouds were colliding and creating this mystical alchemy.
And the more I remembered her,
I suddenly found
my hands that were resting by my side
had on their own accord, folded reverently.
It rained last night!
And I remembered with crystal clarity
that the fine line between being alone and being lonely,
Is in the company!
The company of that little girl who lives inside of me
who can still find magic and miracles
in dancing water, dramatic skies and her soul’s melancholy.
In the blessings that we’ve taken for granted
only because someone up there loves us enough
to serve us this masterful trickery
as an everyday commonality.
It was the most fun I’ve had in an eternity.
Being alone with li’l old me,
wrapped up in a night that was rainy!
