She’s exactly like you!

They say, “she’s exactly like you!”

But I look over at you,

and I see…so much more!

You’re a little bit of me, sure…the good ‘little’ I hope,

And you’re a little bit your dad…his excellent ‘little.’

But…you are still so much more!

I look over at you and marvel,

did she really come through me?

This fiesty spirit…with the wisdom of an old soul,

is neither all him, nor my whole.

Your will to do things that I’m always too lazy to,

and the determination to see them through, is all you!

The questions you ask, that boggle my mind,

as though coming from a deeper layer than I will ever find

The dream of changing this world, one idealistic idea at a time.

And I look over at you and see that all you ever really need from me

Is to stand behind you and be supportive of your indomitable spine.

Which, I promise, I’ll always do,

Because I see sneak peeks of your ‘crazy genius’

just waiting to burst through.

I’ll be so proud when they swear you in as world leader…

but I’ve got the bail money ready too 😉

I’ve got you, baby…and I know you’ve got me too!

My best friend, my strength, you are just like me….

Because how can you not be?

You’ve taken with you, a huge part of my soul.

And whatever else you may or may not become,

promise me this, you will always…

be true to your own conscience and remain uniquely you!

So I can always be filled with the same sense of

privilege and honour,

warmth and glow,

Whenever they say, “she’s just like you.”

Because secretly…I want to be just like you too!
