Mark of a Performer

I was 16 when I wrote this for my college magazine I think, which was called The Performer. It was the first time my words were published anywhere.

I remember, the words just flowed out of me. Not sure I even fully understood what they meant then…although my dad did! For some reason, he was most proud of this piece. Kept a cut out in his wallet and showed off his ‘daughter’s work’ whenever he met soemone new…much to my embarrassment at the time. Like any other person born in the pre-instagram/snapchat era I was really shy about sharing my work.

It’s ironic, I know…I share so much of it now. Took me decades to get to this point though 🙂 Gratitude to all those who encouraged me to share…and those who still do everytime they take the time to read.

I read this over and over, amateur as it seems…there’s so much I would edit now.

Sometimes I read it to see what my dad saw, sometimes in the hope that I can be as balanced as my portrayal of ‘the performer’ some day, just as he would want me to…sharing it once again now because I thought someone may enjoy reading it today!
