Making

Coping in bizarre times

From making the wheel to making babies, the human mind has clearly been designed to create. We feel most productive when we ideate and invent. People work in order to conceptualise…to manufacture…and to generate an income.

However, at an unprecedented and difficult time like this, when the life as we knew it, was rudely and aggressively snatched away from us, our minds have been temporarily robbed of this basic right.

Had we known what was to come, experts would predict that the human brain would never be able to cope and would most likely collapse.
But the human mind is a survivor!
If anything, this lockdown has shown us this…despite all the restrictions on our resources, movement, day jobs, and night life…we have seen a sudden outburst of creativity.

The human race has promptly gone into some sort of a ‘Lockdown Show n Tell’ with an outpouring of talent and a desire to entertain others who are in the same isolated boat as us…bringing a few moments of joy to nameless, faceless strangers.

Baking , dancing, workouts, yoga, art, craft, satire, live music concerts, virtual classrooms, work from home…

inhibitions have been shed like never before with every skill on full display over the Internet, made freely available to all. And everything has found an audience. Never before has the global population, collectively showcased itself so beautifully and connected virtually despite being physically apart.

It is true what they say…life does find a way. The human mind is more resilient than we give it credit for. When faced with a dilemma of this magnitude, when challenged with an unimagined, unpredicted enemy, we barely missed a beat. Sure we dwelled in self-pity and fear momentarily, as would be expected, but like the force of nature that we are, we changed our course and quickly carried on!

And that really is what life is all about…Simply carrying on. No matter what!Living in the today and putting one foot in front of the other. It’s still a work in progress but we ARE adapting to our new lives and for that we deserve a pat on the back.

Health, by its very definition, is not just the absence of disease. It is the physical, mental and social well being of an individual. And in order to achieve this, our minds NEED to feel productive.
It’s fine if it isn’t lucrative.

It’s fine if it’s time consuming.

It’s even fine if it’s senseless to others…

As long as it’s fun for you and is keeping you sane….go ahead and…
