Note to self:
Daily reminder
My job profile:
-
My children are NOT my report card of an imaginary parenting exam!
-
Their achievements are NOT a certificate of my ‘wonderful’ skills as a mother.
-
Their success is purely their own…a product of their dedication, hard work, luck, and destiny.
-
I am here to unconditionally love, assist and support them in any way they need. I am on their team, and NOT a rule-dictating authority that they must constantly strive to appease.
-
My desires and ambitions of being perceived as a super mom who is raising her children to their greatest potential, are borne out of my own insecurities and need for identity… my children are NOT in any way obligated to fulfill these on my behalf by displaying exemplary behaviour at all times.
-
They are NOT products that I am creating to showcase to the world.
-
My fear of being judged by people whose opinions should not matter as they generally are a reflection of their own skills…or lack thereof, should NOT burden my children in the least.
-
My badge of honour, if I really am compelled to look for one, is to be found only in the happy giggles, lazy snuggles, idle chatter and the stolen kisses that I receive from my children in private, when nobody else is around to witness, and neither should they be privy to!
-
If my children are (mostly) polite, respectful, humble yet confident, grounded and balanced individuals who are not afraid of hard work but at the same time do not view success or failure as a barometer of life, it means I have…(just about) fulfilled the bare minimum requirement of my job and deserve absolutely no congratulatory pat on the back for the same!
Nobody said it was easy, but it is so worth it… and I must never lose sight of, nor forget to be grateful for, this privilege of being a mother.
