Compari-Sin. Things I want my children to know -5:

Compari-SIN

Comparison is the thief of joy!

                             -Theodore Roosevelt

Mother’s orders : repeat this to yourself everyday…several times a day…for as long as you live!

Prognosis: will cure envy, insecurity, lack of confidence, complexes

Side effects: sheer joy, undiluted happiness, lifelong contentment

If you think about it…out of all the experiences that we ever have, throughout our life, we really need to excel in just one skill, in order to successfully feed, safeguard (and provide unlimited Wifi to) ourselves and our family.

JUST ONE!!

Why then, have we been conditioned to subconsciously try and rival everyone we come across? We really don’t need to participate in every single race, just do our very best on our own journey.

Tools were invented for our convenience…be it a weighing scale or money…to help us measure the value of things…not the worth of people!

Comparing ourselves to anybody else is a form of mental and emotional abuse, where we, ironically become both the abuser and our own victim.

Break this habit now!

Love,

Your mother

Forever

P.S: Clothes, especially, are inanimate objects. Objects that should be designed to fit living, breathing, ever changing individual human bodies. No living being should ever need to alter themselves to fit what somebody else decided was the ‘standard’ body size, only because it’s good business sense for them to manufacture clothes that way. Let them figure out how to fit their commodity to match our size.
