About Failure. Things I want my children to know – 3

About failure:

Failure is such a cold, empty, heartless word that brings with it a feeling of disheartening gloom and indicates there was absolutely no progress.

But how can that be true? How can you really have completely ‘failed’ at something if you were just a few steps away? It implies that all your work, effort and perseverance…all that you sacrificed to get that far, stands for nothing? As if the last step across the finish line is the only one that matters, completely disregarding any other progress that was made?

That does not sound right!

What if it is not us, but the makers of language who ‘failed’ at defining the words ‘success’ and ‘failure’ accurately?

What if, instead of ‘failure’, the opposite of success could be ‘almost there’

Do you think more people would attempt different things and ‘almost succeed’, rather than never even try and therefore, ‘definitely fail’ in all?
