Imagine a world where CCTV cameras were used for capturing random acts of kindness instead of crime. Where satellites sent us images of people being good to one another.
Helping an older neighbour by offering to carry her heavy bags to her car, a motorist slowing down to allow a pedestrian to cross the street.
Not larger than life, world changing altruism that gets splashed on social media. Just small, simple humane acts with no desire for instant rewards.
Maybe we’ve been going about law and order all wrong. Instead of punishing crime, what if we rewarded kindness? Wouldn’t that motivate people to make the world a much better place?
Now here’s the irony…the secret…the truth that’s so in your face that people forget to see it…
We actually do get paid to be kind!!
People who are warm and polite, courteous and respectful…
Those who refuse to invite drama and negativity, pretention and superficiality into their lives…
Those who take the effort to make others feel good about themselves and work hard on not being judgemental…
Those, who the cynical others, often write off as being ‘too sweet’, or ‘weak’ are often also the ones who get labelled as being ‘so lucky’.
Well, maybe their goodness does stem from an ulterior motive, because here’s what these people know…
When good things happen to some, it isn’t by sheer ‘luck’ or ‘chance’.
When we share our positivity with others, or make them feel good about themselves, we instantly attract their blessings and good wishes like a magnet. And blessings, in turn, bring happiness and positivity back into our lives.
But just because the great architects of civilisation, the ones who wrote down social norms, failed to recognise its importance, and did not make the reward for kindness a tangible earning that we can encash, we dismiss the value and the power of it.
That is the greatest disservice we do to ourselves because the benefits of kindness are real.
It’s simple maths. It’s karma. What goes around does come around. So, I implore you to be good. And surround yourself with people who are too. Be a happy, warm, positive person if you want to be ‘lucky’. It will be your life’s greatest investment.
